Where must we even begin? How about the lighting: in the first set Elena and Damon are covered in yellow lights and shadows. Life is simpler then: black and white with very few grays, and much warmth. In the second everything is gray or dark, clouded and yet serene. At the beginning they are separate; Elena is not aware of his presence and Damon is so detached emotionally. But now they are in the dark with all its morally gray together, and at some kind of peace with each other where before there was only a disjointed connection. Damon watches her, crosses lines and touches her cheek, and she wakes up. Now Elena falls asleep while Damon only looks after her, surrounded by the embrace of darkness that has enfolded their lives.
